Cures for the Common Cold

For the first time in as long as I can remember I’ve spent half a week sick in bed.  Since I’ve been working in an airport, I’m guessing it’s more than a common cold and probably some foreign disease that I’m not immune to.  So while nothing is much of a cure, these three have been great sinus clearers.  They also only take 3 minutes which is as long as I want to be up for.

1) Hot and Sour Soup

This warming broth heats you up and clears out the sinuses at the same time.  Combine all ingredients with 1 1/2 cups hot water and simmer.

  • 1-2 tablespoons sambal oelek  – depending on spice preference
  • 2 tablespoons lemon or lime juice
  • 1 clove fresh minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon miso paste or soup base

2) Quick mulled wine

Combine 1 part red wine and 1 part pineapple or orange juice with a squeeze of fresh lemon and bring to temperature on the stovetop without reaching a boil.

3) Hot Toddy

Steep one tea bag Traditional Medicines decongestant, add grated ginger, desired amount of honey and one small shot of brandy or whiskey

Also try sweating everything out in a Detox Bath
